Rock on Top of Another Rock – Hyde Park Installation
In 2013, IMAG was proud to play a part in one of London’s most striking public art projects — the installation of Rock on Top of Another Rock in Hyde Park.
Created by renowned Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss, the sculpture consisted of two monumental granite boulders, carefully balanced to appear almost impossibly precarious. At five metres tall, the installation drew international attention and was widely covered in the press, including by Sky News, for its bold visual impact and technical ingenuity.
Supplying Stone for a Landmark Artwork
IMAG aggregates sourced, supplied and supported the handling of the glacial igneous granite boulders used for the project. These were selected for their size, strength, and natural character — qualities that allowed them to stand as both an artwork and a feat of engineering.
Granite of this scale requires specialist knowledge in procurement and logistics. IMAG’s expertise in natural stone meant the artists and project team could realise their ambitious vision while ensuring safety for the thousands of visitors passing through Hyde Park every day.
International Recognition
The sculpture was part of a wider programme organised by The Royal Parks and the Serpentine Gallery, featuring works from world-leading artists such as Thomas Schütte and Anish Kapoor. Following its year-long installation in Hyde Park, Rock on Top of Another Rock travelled to Doha, Qatar, as part of a cultural exchange between the UK and Qatar.
For IMAG, this project showcased not only our ability to work at scale but also our commitment to supporting projects that connect communities with stone in innovative and meaningful ways.
